A Tribute to Prof. Jeff A. Fleming, a Bar Review Legend
In loving memory of Prof. Jeff A. Fleming, the co-founder and director of Fleming's Fundamentals of Law, who passed away in 2022. Prof. Fleming was a visionary and legend in the field of bar review, who dedicated his life to helping countless law students and bar candidates excel in their legal studies.
Prof. Fleming was a pioneer, developing innovative and effective courses that integrated substantive law, exam strategies, and personal coaching. He was also a generous and compassionate mentor, who motivated thousands of students with his enthusiasm, humor, and insight.
Law School and Beyond
Jeff graduated from California Western School of Law, where he met his wife and partner, Susan P. Sneidmiller. Together, Jeff and Sue founded Fleming's Fundamentals of Law in 1982, with the goal of providing high-quality bar review courses to law students. They co-authored comprehensive and innovative law school success and bar exam materials for all fifteen subjects tested on the California Bar Exam, including Sue’s performance test materials used nationwide. Jeff and Sue also created online courses to reach a wider audience and enhance student’s bar review experience.
Jeff's legacy lives on in the success of his students, the excellence of his staff, and the quality of his materials.

Professor Jeff A. Fleming founded Fleming’s Fundamentals of Law in 1982 after graduating from Western State University College of Law in CA and passing the bar exam. For more than 40-years, Prof. Fleming taught substantive courses at various CA law schools. Prof. Fleming is a consultant to numerous law schools in CA that rely on his exam writing expertise and incorporate his methods and materials into their required curriculum.
Prof. Fleming regularly participated essay exam calibration grading sessions conducted by the CA Bar Examiners, giving him unique insight into what the Bar Examiners want to see in a passing answer. Prof. Fleming used this experience and expertise in authoring a four-book series of examination writing workbooks that teach the skills necessary to pass law school and bar essay exams. Every course Prof. Fleming conducts includes instruction on the analytical and writing skills law students must demonstrate to pass legal essay exams.
Prof. Fleming published two volumes of multistate MBE questions and answers that cover all subjects tested on the Bar Examination. These publications are available in legal bookstores throughout the U.S.
Jeff is dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
